How do I purchase an A5?
ICON is currently accepting deposits for A5 delivery positions. Approximately six (6) months prior to your delivery date, ICON will forward an A5 Production Notice, Aircraft Specification, Option Price List and Purchase & Sale Agreement. There are two ways to place a deposit – either via the Standard Purchase Program or the ICON 100 Program.
What are the deposit terms?
There are two programs available for placing a deposit and obtaining a delivery position – the Standard Purchase Program and the ICON 100 Program. Each program has unique terms and conditions – see below for details.
What is the Standard Purchase Program??
The Standard Purchase Program requires a $5000 deposit which is held in escrow until the Purchase and Sale Agreement is completed. The deposit is refundable (less a 10% processing fee) at any time up until the Purchase & Sale Agreement is completed. The A5 purchase price in the Standard Purchase Program is estimated at $139,000 USD.
What is meant by an “estimated” price?
In the Standard Purchase Program, the price of the A5 is indexed to the CPI-W. As there is no way to predict what the CPI-W will do between now and executing the Purchase & Sale Agreement, the A5 price is indexed to allow an inflation adjustment due to the current backlog. The A5 price is indexed to the CPI-W. This price includes a standard feature package including a GPS, retractable landing gear and manual wingfold. Each order requires a $5,000 deposit, held in escrow.
What is the CPI-W?
The final purchase price in the Standard Purchase Program is indexed to the Consumer Price Index – Wage earners, also known as the CPI-W. The CPI-W only covers urban wage earners and clerical workers, as opposed to the CPI-U which includes every consumer. (Both indices include the same “basket of goods” to measure price increases.)
What is the ICON 100 Program?
The ICON 100 Program consists of the first 100 A5 customer deliveries. These airplanes will be a Limited Edition series with upgraded interior and exterior paint schemes. The ICON 100 Program purchase price is fixed at $135,000 USD (as opposed to the Standard Purchase Program where the price is indexed to the CPI-W.) This program requires a $100,000 USD non-escrowed deposit, with the balance payment due at aircraft delivery. If I placed an order today, what would my delivery date be?
Contact ICON Sales at sales@iconaircraft.com to review expected delivery dates for either the ICON 100 or Standard Purchase Program.
If I place a deposit now, when do I complete a Purchase Agreement?
Approximately six (6) months before your scheduled delivery date, ICON will forward an A5 Production Notice, Aircraft Specification, Option Price List and Purchase and Sale Agreement. At that time, you will need to select your options and submit the Purchase Agreement.
Are progress payments required?
Progress payments will be stipulated in the Purchase Agreement which will be delivered with the Production Notice approximately six (6) months prior to aircraft delivery.
Is the deposit held in escrow?
A5 deposits are held in escrow; the terms of which are listed in Section 5.4 of the ICON A5 Deposit Agreement. The ICON 100 Program deposits are not escrowed. Please contact ICON Sales at sales@iconaircraft.com for more information.
When will final performance specifications be available?
Final performance specifications will be available at the completion of performance flight testing, prior to FAA approval and first customer deliveries. Deposit holders will be provided a final specification upon receipt of Production Notice, prior to executing the Purchase and Sale Agreement.
What options are available on the A5?
ICON will offer a range of options for owners to customize the A5. The current A5 options are:
- - Complete Airplane Parachute
- - Glass cockpit instrumentation (required for night VFR flight)
- - Automatic wingfold
- - Retractable landing gear
NOTE: Option selections may be limited by LSA maximum empty weight restrictions
Are there any exterior paint or interior options?
While ICON expects that other options will be made available at the time of Production Notice, details have not yet been announced. All available options will be provided at the time of the Production Notice.
Is the landing gear optional?
Yes, the A5 may be ordered without the landing gear. Obviously, this would result in the A5 being in a straight “seaplane” configuration.
What are the weights of the various options?
Final component design is not yet completed; however, ICON estimates the following weights for the major A5 options:
- - Parachute: 35 lbs.
- - Automatic wingfold: 50 lbs.
- - Landing gear: 75 lbs.
- - Glass panel: n/a
Do I order directly from ICON, or do you have a dealer network?

Are customer demonstration flights available?
Customer demo flights should be available sometime after the first customer shipment, well in advance of your Production Notice. If, after the demonstration flight, you elect not to proceed with a Purchase & Sale Agreement, you may request a refund of your deposit.
Is it possible to finance my A5 purchase?
ICON will be working with lending institutions as customer delivery dates approach. For more information, ICON recommends you research those banks that cater to members of either the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) or Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA).
Is insurance available on the A5?
Individual aircraft owners and pilots can secure affordable insurance in the same manner as any general aviation plane or vehicle. Several insurance providers cater to aircraft owners and members of both EAA and AOPA, which have information at their respective websites: www.eaa.org and www.aopa.org.
Where will I take delivery of my A5?
A5 deliveries will be completed at an A5 Customer Delivery Center, or at an A5 dealer location in some geographies. Details will be stipulated in the A5 Purchase & Sale Agreement at the time of Production Notice.
Do you have a referral fee program?
ICON offers a $1000 credit towards the purchase of an A5 to a current position holder who refers a new customer to ICON (payable at time of referral customer aircraft delivery.) Contact ICON Sales at sales@iconaircraft.com for more information regarding the A5 Owner Referral Program.
